Welcome to the website of the Bahá’í Choir of the UK!

Our intent

The choir, comprised of singers from across the United Kingdom, performs music inspired by the sacred writings of the Bahá’í Faith and other world religions as well as secular music that embodies the universal principles of the Bahá’í Faith.

Therefore set to music the verses and the divine words so that they may be sung with soul-stirring melody in the Assemblies and gatherings, and that the hearts of the listeners may become tumultuous and rise towards the Kingdom of Abha in supplication and prayer.
— ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Applications are being accepted

If you love to sing, come and be a part of this exciting entity.
The choir meets for rehearsal weekends (usually in late Autumn and early Spring), performs at the annual Bahá’í National Convention (in April or May) and at up to two other events a year, in different parts of the United Kingdom (so far including: Liverpool, Nottingham, Belfast, Chorley (near Preston), Hebden Bridge (w Yorkshire), Llangrannog (Wales), Cambridge and Edinburgh).

Would you like to host the choir for a rehearsal weekend?

The choir holds its bi-annual rehearsal weekends in different cities and towns in the UK. We are always looking for host venues for upcoming rehearsals. If you'd like to host the choir for a rehearsal weekend, we can offer a small performance for you and your guests in return on the last day (usually a Sunday) at around 2pm. The calendar page shows the currently available dates and we suggest you read about the choir's typical practical arrangements and requirements for a successful weekend.

Enrichment through collaboration

The choir endeavors to enrich performances and support collaborative and independent projects across arts disciplines. We encourage all artists including but not limited to: instrumentalists, composers, dancers, actors, writers, poets, sign-language presenters, applied artists, etc. to join us and support our growing network of musicians and artists.

Rehearsal Weekend in Cambridge, November 2014

During an intense weekend, we rehearsed and performed on two occasions: the Birth of Bahá’u’lláh celebration and for the start of National Interfaith Week at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. One singer later commented: “It was lovely to see the friends again. A warm and spiritual friendship has developed. It was a spiritually uplifting weekend yet again.”

The Choir had a very successful second rehearsal weekend: We were delighted to welcome seven new members and to have two full days to rehearse our repertoire, culminating in a performance as part of a "Celebration of Creative Arts in Nottingham". The Great Hall in the Trent Building of Nottingham University had wonderful acoustics and we were honoured to perform alongside such talented artists.

Rehearsal Weekend in Liverpool, December 2012

This is a short video from our first rehearsal weekend in Liverpool on Sunday, December 16th 2012. The choir did an impromptu performance on the steps of what used to be the Theosophical Society's building in a side-street in Liverpool. The lyrics in the song are taken from a talk by ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, given in that very building 100 years and 2 days before. Thanks to Max for making the video!
